Work in Cartagena

I've been living in Cartagena since 2021 and work remotely from here. The question "where do I work today?" comes up constantly — and finding a good answer in this city is harder than it should be. WiFi quality varies wildly, AC is non-negotiable in the heat, and most guides are years out of date.

I test every spot myself with a speed test and go back regularly. My priorities: fast and reliable internet, good coffee, and somewhere nearby to take a real break — a beach, a fort, a park. Cartagena has all of these if you know where to look.

Whether you're looking for a coworking space with reliable upload speeds for video calls, or a quiet café to work from for a few hours, this is the only list in Cartagena with real speed test data and honest notes about what each place is actually like.

Here's what I've found so far.

A neighborhood favorite I come back to often. Two comfy couches and a few less comfortable tables — it's primarily a coffee spot, not built for laptop marathons, but the couches work well for a few hours. There's also a small terrace right on the street if you want fresh air. Coffee is excellent, frappés are great (the Milo frappé is a hit if you bring kids). Internet is solid, AC is good, service is genuinely great. Quietish in the mornings and afternoons.

Best spot: The two couches inside, or the street-side terrace for fresh air

A family favorite. Quaint, colorful, walls covered in local art. Serves breakfast through to late night, hosts events, plays great music. The fastest WiFi measured on this site so far — 531 down / 386 up. Tables are just big enough to work on and it's genuinely quiet in the morning. Stick around all day and you'll probably end up talking to someone — this is a place where work has a way of turning into conversation, and conversation into a small party. AC is good, a few outlets available, but it gets lively past the morning.

Best spot: The bench tables along the wall — big enough to work on

Hours: From 9am till night

⚠ WiFi is too slow for reliable work. Bring a hotspot — the location makes it worth it anyway.

One of Cartagena's most iconic café locations — Plaza Santo Domingo, next to Botero's famous reclining figure, across from the church and the Spanish Cultural Centre. The coffee is genuinely excellent, among the best in the city. The WiFi is not — 3 down / 1 up when tested, and this isn't a one-off. Come here for the atmosphere and a great espresso. Bring your own hotspot if you need to work.

Best spot: Inside booths along the left wall — more shade and slightly quieter

Striking space with a stacked shipping-container feature wall and double-height ceilings facing the beach. You can realistically leave your laptop here and go for a swim — beach access is steps away. The dedicated coworking floor is currently occupied by the Secretaría de Turismo; the public coffee area has two sofas and six four-person tables with strong AC and plenty of outlets. A second Concreto coworking space is opening on the mall's second floor around July 2026 — worth checking back. Slightly awkward to find: enter from outside the mall, take the left front stairs.

Best spot: Left front corner near the stairs — best AC and most outlets

Hours: Mon–Sun 8am–6pm

One of the few places in Cartagena that opens at 7am — rare and worth knowing. Movistar fiber gives it the fastest WiFi we've tested in the city: 372 down / 141 up. OK coffee, solid breakfast, quiet until lunchtime. A few outlets inside near the wall. In Manga, a quieter residential neighborhood away from the tourist center — worth the trip. Fuerte de Pastelillo is a short walk away if you need to stretch between sessions. Colombian flags, unpretentious local vibe.

Best spot: Inside tables near the wall — AC and access to plugs

Hours: Mon–Sun 7am–?

Inside the Claustro de la Merced, next to Librería Remedios la Bella. Asymmetric WiFi — 5 down / 20 up when tested, possibly a mobile connection. Fine for email and light browsing, unreliable for video calls or downloads. Best tables: entrance right side, closest to the two outlets. The coffee and chai are genuinely excellent. Exotic fruit sorbets worth trying.

Best spot: Three tables at the entrance right side, closest to the two outlets

A former monastery turned García Márquez memorial. Genuinely beautiful space — worth visiting even if you end up using your hotspot. Inside: Librería Remedios la Bella (FCE Colombia — a major Latin American publisher) and Fruto Bendito café. Hosts frequent cultural events from the Espacio Cultural programming.

Best spot: Back section of the inner yard gets the strongest signal
